Functional Capacity Evaluations

CWRS Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist conduct Functional Capacity Evaluations (also known as Functional Capacity Assessment) in Maroochydore, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast and north to Gympie, Maryborough and Bundaberg.

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) involves a comprehensive and objective assessment of a worker’s functional abilities and limitations, to determine an injured worker’s ability to perform essential work tasks.

An FCE can also be referred to as a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA).

The FCE enables an assessment of a person’s current safe working tolerances and limitations in relation to their current job role, proposed suitable duties, plus identification of areas of weakness to target during work conditioning.

The Functional Capacity Evaluation can also recommend the need for education with respect to injury management (e.g. manual handling training) in order to achieve a successful return to work outcome.

A Functional Capacity Evaluation may test for the following physical tolerances:

  • Safe Lifting limits
  • Pushing
  • Pulling
  • Standing
  • Sitting
  • Walking
  • Crouching
  • Kneeling
  • Upper extremity strength and dexterity
  • Strength
  • Range of motion
